Anthophora bomboides? - Anthophora

Anthophora bomboides? - Anthophora
Ludwig Prairie Preserve, Winneshiek County, Iowa, USA
August 3, 2019
Size: ~13 mm
A bee exactly like this one had me stumped in 2018 when I photographed it on a prime prairie remnant. It looked like a bumble bee but had a yellow clypeus, and was identified as Anthophora bomboides on BugGuide. I found this similar-looking bee on the same prairie remnant now in 2019. I'm pretty sure it is indeed A. bomboides, but don't feel qualified to put it in that category myself since there are so few records for this species. I am adding three more photos, much the same but I think the yellow clypeus is visible in at least two of them.

Anthophora
Thanks so much for confirming that this is indeed a digger bee in the genus Anthophora, John! I'll be looking for another one on Ludwig Prairie next summer as there seems to be a small population of these neat Anthophora digger bees there.
