I suspect this is Datana contracta but am not sure. Any help much appreciated.

I Agree
Looks like a slightly darker version of most any of the 999
Datana contracta
moths I have reared over the years. In your area I think the only other possibility is
Datana perspicua
which in my far too limited experience is a more uniform and paler ground color.

I appreciate your input. I'll give it a bit more rumination time all the same. These guys are tough! (I see now too that the head and front of the thorax is, as Forbes said 'markedly pale'.)
