Minute Tree-fungus Beetle, bejeweled antennae - Malacocis brevicollis

Minute Tree-fungus Beetle, bejeweled antennae - Malacocis brevicollis
Heritage Valley, Allamakee County, Iowa, USA
Size: 1.6 mm
May 4, 2019: collected larvae in fungus
larva #1

larva #2

January 25, 2020: finally took a closer look, everything dead, 5 beetles and lots of tiny black cylindrical somethings.
But the first post has to be the bejeweled antennae on this beetle, perhaps grains of sand, evenly positioned along the club, held in place by the hairs? Perhaps a fluke except both antennae were so adorned.

Batch confinement.

How does one sort out the life in a fungus without tearing up the fungus? I have the same problem with rearings/confinements on Asteraceae flowers.
