Large Syrphid Fly - Scaeva affinis - Male
Desert Hot Springs, Riverside County, California, USA

This fly was larger and more robust than the other syrphid flies I saw in the desert.

I would lean for Scaeva sp. ...
But some members of other Syrphini genera, mainly Eupeodes, are very similar.
