Tolype laricis

Tolype laricis
Pine Brook, Isanti County, Minnesota, USA
Size: 29 mm
This caterpillar was brought home on larch gathered to feed another caterpillar, most likely on 7-16 though the caterpillar was only discovered 7-24-11 (at ~ 25 mm) either in the refrigerated larch or in a rearing container(I don't recall which). At any rate it is shown here 7-27 in final (or penultimate?) stage. By 8-6 it was shrunken and presumed prepupal, but by 8-7 it was dead and rigid.
The head is to the right.
