Euchlaena deductaria (Euchlaena pectinaria)? - Euchlaena pectinaria - Male
Brazos Bend State Park, Fort Bend County, Texas, USA
February 2, 2020
Size: ~45 mm WS
Found by a light on one of the campground restroom buildings. Was surprised to find one of these out so early, but there was a string of 80+ degree days that week. Thought at first E. deplanaria, but its WS is only 34 mm. So at 45 mm WS, the only other Euchalaena that looks like this moth and is that large appears to be E. deducta (formerly E. pectinaria). I am certain that my measurement was correct. In order to capture this one and put it on ice for the evening, I had to go back to camp and get a bigger container.
