black sawfly

black sawfly
Lower Dam, Winneshiek County, Iowa, USA
July 25, 2019
Size: ~8 mm
I'm not sure if a nondescript black sawfly like this can be identified any further than being a common sawfly, but I seem to find a few similar black sawflies in the field and am curious as to where they might fit in. In the past, I've had some black sawflies identified to Dolerus, but they had more punctate patterns on their bodies, especially around the head.
