Olethreutinae, cocoon - Grapholita fana

Olethreutinae, cocoon - Grapholita fana
Plymouth Rock, Winneshiek County, Iowa, USA
June 11, 2018
May 28, 2018: collected apical tip weavings on Showy tick trefoil, Desmodium canadensis, not because I wanted to rear this again but to determine if the larvae were feeding on leaves or flower buds. Literature says: "bud-worm", "flower heads and terminal buds", "buds and flowers", "budworm".
Larvae feed on leaves, perhaps on buds, but from my observations, not on flowers.

June 11, 2018: cocoon was constructed with a cut out portion of a host plant leaf silked to the underlying paper towel

June 17, 2018: moth emerged

June 22, 2018: moth from this cocoon emerged, set free without photo
