Common Sawfly - Dolerus

Common Sawfly - Dolerus
Portage, Kalamazoo County, Michigan, USA
April 20, 2008
Size: 1 cm
This looks really similar to another sawfly I have found but this one has red instead of an all black body. Can anyone tell me what this may be?

Moved from Common Sawflies.

Tenthredinidae, Dolerinae
Dolerus sp. Several Dolerus species have this similar color, but it is not Dolerus unicolor.

Moved from Dolerus unicolor.
Let us wait for an expert to look at it. I also suggest that you crop it tighter. Remember that only you and the editors can see the full size image and everybody else misses the details.

motion seconded: pls crop
--so we could show the image to the experts
