Campus ants 1: Carpenters? - Camponotus University of New Hampshire, Durham, New Hampshire, USA April 21, 2008 Size: 3/4 cm max?
I've found at least four or five species of ants on campus.
Today was my first time seeing myrmecophilic insects that live in ant nests.
Sadly the only ones I could photograph were springtails.
I found round-bodied, wingless crickets (5 cm long) living amongst these ants (another nest, though) but they escaped deep into the nest by the time I came back with my camera to the spot where I found them. (I foolishly tried digging for them but to no avail. Won't do that one again.)
