Trichodezia albovittata

Trichodezia albovittata
Minnetonka, Hennepin County, Minnesota, USA
September 21, 1995
I found two of these on very low Virginia creeper or woodbine (Parthenocissus) shoots. I don't recall Impatiens nearby, though there may have been. I believe they fed on the shoots and formed cocoons of cut leaf fragments in captivity. Unfortunately I took no measurements. On July 12, 1996. the pupae were found to be dead. In looking at the caterpillar images here, I wonder if those posted by Leanne Wallis are also on Parthenocissus (the leaves look similar). I have seen no published mention of Parthenocissus as a host. While no adult eclosed, I'm confident of the caterpillar ID. My rearing notes appear to have been minimal and perhaps partly lost (only two notebook entries were found, not rearing bags with possible notes). So it is conceivable the caterpillars I found were off host and seeking pupation sites. Still seems strange they were both on Parthenocissus, though. Wish I had more notes!

And
I just now noticed Charley Eiseman's 2008 posting of a caterpillar from Parthenocissus. Looking like a possibly common host.
