Identification
Distinguishing the two palm-feeding species requires examination of the underside. C. brasiliensis has one or more pairs of dagger-like hairs on the underside of the head, whereas C. lataniae lacks thse hairs.
Food
Cerataphis brasiliensis and C. lataniae (both called C. palmae in the past) feed on palms (Arecaceae); C. orchidearum feeds on orchids (Orchidaceae)
