Northern spreadwing damselfly lestes disjunctus - Lestes disjunctus

Northern spreadwing damselfly lestes disjunctus - Lestes disjunctus
Bucks County, Pennsylvania, USA
June 1, 2006

It's a Northern Spreadwing,
Lestes disjunctus - or at least that's the best I can tell from this angle. The Emerald Spreadwing has green on most or all of the thorax, whereas the Northern Spreadwing has the blue-green stripes on a black thorax as your photo shows. (By the way, there is the possibility that it is the Southern Spreadwing, Lestes australis. Pennsylvania would be about where the dividing line is between these species. They used to be lumped together and called Common Spreadwing.)
