I was just wondering where more precisely this was on Figueroa? I'd like to find this moth as well...

Heliolonche modicella
Hi, I just saw this message today after seeing that you saw it (on the SoWesLep list). I was looking through your list, and checked the name on my site. I found it on Layia near 34.721 -119.963 last year.

Reminds us a little of
but we'll have to look deeper.

John and Jane Balaban's photo looks more like Heliothodes diminutiva to me than anything else on Moth Photographers Group.

I do think this specimen of Lynn's may very well be a Heliolonche carolus. Good call.

However, on a side note, I should note that the linked picture, I believe, is not H. carolus, due to the pale band not reaching the apex and the faint diffuse (lavender-ish) ST line.

I have had a positive id of " Heliolonche modicella". Thanks everyone for the comments.

Good to hear you got a positive ID. I didn't think to suggest modicella since I've never seen a light pink modicella with that light of thoracic scaling, but the FW pattern is a good match and modicella is definitely in your locale. I guess there is quite a bit a variation in the color.

Thanks for that response.
Looks like the right direction.
