Ostrinia penitalis - Ostrinia obumbratalis

Ostrinia penitalis - Ostrinia obumbratalis
Tallahassee, Leon County, Florida, USA
March 21, 2020
Size: About 10 mm TL
Attracted to UV light at dawn.

Ostrinia
I also think this moth may be an example of Ostrinia penitalis. The darker color (brown) seems to be more characteristic of O. penitalis.

Just looked at the moths posted in iNaturalist for this species from Florida. Many postings IDed as O.penitalis but only one for O.obumbratalis

Only reason I looked at this moth again is because one of the moths I posted recently on iNaturalist caused me to do a little searching.

Moved tentatively
Moved from ID Request.

Not Sure
The am. line is steeply angled outwardly from the costa, there's a smudge beyond the reniform and the color seems wrong. Could be a color balance or lighting issue but I noticed that the am. line of obumbratalis typically extends perpendicularly from the costa before angling outwardly and while obumbratalis can have the smudge bordering the reniform, it less pronounced and the shape is kind of different.

Ostrinia obumbratalis
Yea, that does look better, and the size is more in line. Thanks Aaron.
