Brown & black ants - Camponotus americanus

Brown & black ants - Camponotus americanus
Dallas, Dallas County, Texas, USA
April 26, 2008
Size: 1/2-3/4'
Poor quality picture of specimen inside an ant farm. Found in a small nest mound at the base of a tree. There weren't very many of them, and when disturbed they immediately began to burrow into the loose soil. It appears that fire ants had wiped out the rest of the colony.

Moved
Most likely this species. A little bit farther west, and I would have some other options...

Camponotus?
Perhaps a soldier?
