Burrowing Spider? - Geolycosa

Burrowing Spider? - Geolycosa
Grantsburg, Burnett County, Wisconsin, USA
April 23, 2008
Size: around 1/4 + inch
I am thinking Burrowing Wolf Spider (Geolycosa) but would like comments positive or negative or specie ID if possible. I see these burrows often in the listed location but this was first opportunity to get a shot of the owner. Two of us were taking pictures and these are the best we got. This one is mine and Bugguide has permission to use it.

Not an ID
but, although I'm not a spider expert, I agree with your impression. The eye arrangement looks good for Lycosidae to me.

If it is a Geolycosa sp., this web site suggests that G. missouriensis and G. wrighti are represented in Wisconsin, and might have more information...

Thanks for the specie names.
Thanks for the specie names. I had fun searching out info. I still cant decide what kind it is but heres an interesting document on two different types of Geolycosa that indicates spider size may be calculated by burrow size, plus other interesting info.

I've seen much bigger burrows and maybe over the summer I will get some better shots.

Thanks again for the clues!

Geolycosa
also, as time goes on its turret, if any, will be interesting
and usually this genus can be found in numbers
close by, so look for many holes and different sizes
to help define year class and gender.
