Arispe cestalis? - Arispe cestalis

Arispe cestalis? - Arispe cestalis
Marathon, Brewster County, Texas, USA
March 10, 2020
Size: ~12 mm TL
Found at private campground adjacent to Black Gap Wildlife Management Area immediately north of Big Bend National Park. Of the few images of A. cestalis posted on BugGuide and MPG, most of these are shown as an overall charcoal grey color, but the ones showing on Barcode of Life all are shown in more of a tan base color and several of those look very much like this moth. As far as I can tell, there are no reports of Arispe from TX and I cannot see that there are any other species in North America under the genus. However, I do see that MPG lists 5535 Arispe atalis as synonomous with A. cestalis since 1995. When first described, atalis was being found in Arizona and New Mexico, not far from this part of Texas.
