Pterosticus? - Stenolophus fuliginosus

Pterosticus? - Stenolophus fuliginosus
Toronto, Ontario, Canada
April 12, 2020
Size: 7.3mm
I'm wondering if this might be a small Pterosticus species, but the pronotum seems odd. I definitely haven't encountered this species before. Have specimen if more views are needed.

Stenolophus fuliginosus
This species has a harpaline habitus and characteristic dark femora (thighs) in stark contrast to pale tibiae. Owen, without a stereomicroscope you are at a great disadvantage. With a scope you would have seen on side of head one supraorbital (above eye) seta as in all harpalines versus two supraorbital setae as in all pterostichines. A scope plus Bousquet's 2010 key to genera would have gotten you there.

Thank you
For the ID! I wish I had access to a microscope. I do at school, but because of Coronavirus I'm obviously at home. :)

Put a home stereomicroscope on your wish list.
There are just a few exceptions to the supraorbital setae rule noted above.
