Candy Cane Leg Spider Mite

Candy Cane Leg Spider Mite
Grants Pass, Josephine County, Oregon, USA
April 6, 2020
Size: <1mm
Identified as a Spider Mite by Texas A&M. Looking for the species. Found on the floor of an indoor hemp nursery. I want to ensure this is not a pest species.

Erythracaridae - a predatory mite
Well, shame on Texas A&M! This is not a spider mite, this is a predatory mite from the family Erythracaridae (previously a subfamily within the Anystidae, the whirligig mites). This is a good mite to have in a greenhouse as it will feed on small herbivorous arthropods.

Cheers,
Heather

Thank you!
