American Lady larval shelter - Vanessa virginiensis

American Lady larval shelter - Vanessa virginiensis
Gainesville, Alachua County, Florida, USA
May 21, 2005
I had to pull the structure apart gently to get this shot. Within an hour the caterpillar had relocated to another stem tip and constructed a new enclosure. Little did he know the whole plant was scheduled for relocation - I had to clear several of these weeds with larval shelters to a nearby flower bed before I could mow the lawn.
