Red Wasp/Paper Wasp? - Polistes metricus

Red Wasp/Paper Wasp? - Polistes metricus
Virginia Beach, Virginia Beach County, Virginia, USA
May 1, 2008
I think ive got it figure out as a Red Wasp / Paper Wasp but would like to know for sure :))

Polistes
In Virginia, P. fuscatus can show the same colour pattern, and can then only be distinguished based on the convexity of sternum 2 (not visible here). However, P. metricus is more likely. Nice shot!

Not sure
but, compared to other images here in the guide, it looks like it could be Polistes Metricus

correct
P. metricus looks correct to me too

Thanks for the quick i.d.!!
Thanks :) Had me wondering all day at work!
