I think ive got it figure out as a Red Wasp / Paper Wasp but would like to know for sure :))

Polistes
In Virginia, P. fuscatus can show the same colour pattern, and can then only be distinguished based on the convexity of sternum 2 (not visible here). However, P. metricus is more likely. Nice shot!

but, compared to other images here in the guide, it looks like it could be Polistes Metricus
