Whats the best way to raise a large beetle grub?

I have this large grub that was found in a compost heap in Canyon Lake, Tx. I’m not sure of the species, but my dad, who is not an expert, thinks it’s probably a rhino beetle. I have had it for about a month, I think, in a critter carrier. The bottom layer of the enclosure has small rocks, then above that is local topsoil, dead leaves, and fruit and veggie scraps that I supply near daily. Every few days I spray the enclosure with purified water. It’s kept on a table on my back deck where it gets moderate sun. Is this setup ideal for this grub? Sometimes during the first part of the day I see it moving around. It seems to enjoy kale stems.

Very cool!
I look forward to hearing what happens. I guess they can remain in the pupal stage for a long time?

Yes
I read some large beetles will remain larva for up to a year, and will remain in the pupal stage from a few months up to 18 months. I have no prior experience with raising beetles, and I don't remember where I read that.

Let us know!
I'm afraid the only beetle I've raised was a Chrysomelidae species.
See article here (maybe *something* will be helpful?): https://bugguide.net/node/view/1715743
I hope you have success with yours and let us know how it turns out.

Will do!
I'll check out that link, thank you! I'll be sure to post a photo when my little baby does finally pupate. Maybe it'll give us clues to what it might be!

Does it walk upside down?
Also scarab grubs are more or less blind anyways, the less sun the better.
