Peter, thanks for the identification. It's a new one for the guide.

Lebiini - Cymindis platicollis
based on my microscopic examination of this specimen. This case revealed to me, regretably, on how easy an Agonum-like image can mislead a carabid 'expert' who was already familiar in recognizing this very different genus-species under scope. Thanks Tom.

Peter, should I save this one for you, or in the future just stay away from these plain colored Agonums?

Please do not avoid plain colored Agonum,
as there are many interesting species in your area. You will begin to recognize important distinguishing features. For example, this has a pronotum with suggested hind angles, uniformly pale legs, brownish elytra but possibly a darker forebody. After you are familiar with the more common (confirmed) species of Agonom AND they are well represented in BugGuide, then you may wish to stop submitting more images of the same. Thanks for saving this one too!

Agonum
images that lack distinct color patterns like this one usually require scoping for secure species identification.
