Cat. on pawpaw - Epimecis hortaria

Size: 15 mm
I thought it was a zebra swallowtail at first, till I looked again at other photos. I found 3 of these all on small pawpaw trees. I thought the zebra was the only cat that ate pawpaw...definitely wrong, I also found other small caterpillars on them too. What is this?

I've seen
at least 2 different geometrid species feeding on pawpaw. I have finally found a bunch of baby Zebra cats and whenever I find a geometer I pull it off, because the holes in the leaves are what I look for and it's easier to find one species when there's not another species making more holes. These two (tulip tree beauties?) have pupated and I'm waiting...

hunchback
The "hunchback" appearance is characteristic of Epimecis hortaria, the tulip-tree beauty. Food plant fits, too.

Looks like it
I guess that's it. Cool looking moth, I will raise the two I have and add one to my collection.

I'm still looking for zebra swallowtails. I read that they fly in May, so I should start looking soon. A riverside trail I visit often is lined with pawpaws but no cats yet...
