Bostrichid Beetle - Polycaon stoutii

Bostrichid Beetle - Polycaon stoutii
San Pedro, in a residence, Los Angeles County, California, USA
May 17, 2005
Size: 17 mm
Polycaon stoutii. This individual had recently emerged from a piece of furniture made from an eastern maple, though the egg may have been laid in the wood in California. It is likely that the larval phase lasted at least 2, but probably not more than 3 or 4 years.
