Hovering in shaded trail. Feisty behavior similar to the syrphid Ornidia obesa but it appears to be too hairy for syrphidae.
Getting shots like this on the wing is a combination of skill, patience and luck. There were several hovering and zipping about so this may or may not be the same individual.
