Dolomedes tenebrosus? - Dolomedes

Dolomedes tenebrosus? - Dolomedes
Old Lyme, Nehantic State Forest, New London County, Connecticut, USA
May 3, 2020
Size: 2-3"
This beautiful critter was hanging out on the moss along a stream bank. I assumed wolf spider, but all of the wolf spiders with patterns on their abdomen and thorax have white stripes down the center of those parts, whereas this spider has a white outline of those parts.

Dolomedes vittatus
I've seen that particular pattern of white on the abdomen on a number of fishing spiders that also had the pronounced dark spots on the cephalothorax of Dolomedes vittatus.

Moved to genus for now
Moved from ID Request. I don't believe this is D. tenebrosus.

not D. tenebrosus
Hi Chad,
Why do you not believe this is D. tenebrosus? And if not that one, what do you think it is?
Thanks,
Laurie

Hmm...
My strongest rationale is that the area anterior to the eyes is white. That is not typical of the species. I don't honestly know which species it is but it may be an odd D. scriptus.

Ok, I see
Pun intended!

I also see now that it's important to get a frontal view, of the "face" so to speak, so that you have a clear view of the eye pattern. Of the photos I've looked at, D. scriptus is really the only other one it could be.
