wasp?

wasp?
Lake Meyer Park, Winneshiek County, Iowa, USA
July 7, 2019
Size: ~7 mm
I think this is a wasp of some sort though I couldn't find a suitable category to fit it into. I hope the photos show enough details to determine what type of wasp or other Hymenopteran it is.

wasp? wasp? wasp?

Moved tentatively

Roproniidae
Thanks for moving this challenging little wasp to the Roproniidae family, Ken! This is definitely a new wasp find for me!

Venation is wrong for Sphecidae
It looks more like a Braconid to me (though I admit the petiole is odd, and I'd like a better view of the antennae). I'll look around.

wasp wing venation
Yes, when I looked at the wing veins on this wasp it did remind me of a Braconid wasp, but the body didn't seem to fit in with examples I've seen in that family. Thanks for your help with this wasp ID, Ken!

I may have found it

I'd like a second opinion, though.

Ropronia
I see that Ropronia has been reported from Iowa before, Ken. It does look like you figured out what my mystery wasp is! I wouldn't have found a match in a million years.

Thread-waisted Wasp
Some kind of Thread-waisted Wasp

Could also be some kind of carbonid, but the "waist" is pretty long, so Thread-waisted Wasp seems more likely to me.

thread-waisted wasp
Thanks for your input on this interesting wasp, Nathaniel! Yes, this wasp does have a long thin waist and I looked through the Sphecidae family for a possible landing spot but couldn't find any wasps there that looked like a solid match to me.
