Fire-Colored Beetle Larva? - Dendroides ephemeroides

Fire-Colored Beetle Larva? - Dendroides ephemeroides
5 mi. south of Port Angeles, Clallam County, Washington, USA
May 6, 2008
Size: 3 cm
Found under loose bark on the stump of a tree cut a few years back.
The larva was moderately active after I disturbed it.
It was quite flat, maybe a millimeter thick, and pretty sturdy.
Compare to the larvae in this bugguide section.

Note that the "pinchers" appear to be a single, nonarticulated structure. This larva was quite aggressive in swinging it's hind end at my finger.
