butterfly equipment

butterfly equipment
rural, Denton County, Texas, USA
This is a homemade trap I use to supply live specimens for shows and exibits for the Dallas Lepo Society. It works very well, and is easy to tend, maintain and store. I emptied the trap, and took the last pic the next day....with 28 more inside.

How to
Can you give a quick 'How to' for making this. It looks to be two plant pot bottoms, mesh material, some chains, and something I can't make out that cinches the base of the netting. Very nice.

I've used a somewhat similar trap based loosely off a minnow trap.

construction instructions
If you would contact me at dannymims@aol.com, I would be most happy to e-mail detailed instructions. You do need a sewing machine, mine is the one my mom used 50 years ago....still runs fine.

traps and lures
you can also move these photos to a permanent home under BugGuide's "Traps and Lures" here, and add the instructions if you like :)

interesting!
looks like the bottam is open so they get in... but they fly up into the net right?
