Oops!!!!
After my photo was Identified by scientific name, I was looking up the common name for this animal when I noticed that all the other images of this stink bug have a red dot in this same spot....so it's not a parasite after all!

 
Ocellus.
The red dot is one of two ocelli, the simple eyes most insects possess.
