Contacyphon sp. 2 - Coccidula lepida

Contacyphon sp. 2 - Coccidula lepida
Kossuth County, Iowa, USA
May 14, 2020
Size: 2+ mm
swept adjacent sedgey prairie pothole

Wouldn't have found this on my own. The boldness of the pattern fits lepida far better than Contacyphon.

what caught my eye...
is the shape of the pronotum isn't right for a scirtid (see how it angles down towards the base?)

Moved tentatively
the base of the pronotum is too angulate to be a scirtid

Moved from Sp. 2.

if you
do an advanced search with Contacyphon and Iowa, you can see the beetle correctly proportioned

not sure
not sure why image loaded vertically compressed- should be a more elongate beetle

Image size
I'm not sure how you are able to upload these images as they exceed the BG upload size and limit. That's likely causing the issue.

I just resized it and uploaded for you, and now it is corrected.

Ive seen that with a couple of your images
also not sure the ID is correct here; have you ruled-out coccinellids?
