Dragonfly - Epiaeschna heros

Dragonfly - Epiaeschna heros
Shelby County, Alabama, USA
May 16, 2020
I heard a commotion outside and stepped out onto the carport to see what was going on. I found this dragonfly, the largest I've seen, hovering over my blacklight, beating its wings into the fluorescent bulb. It sounded like a weed eater. Ever so often, it would launch off the bulb and, to my eyes, seemed to be eating the smaller bugs gathered around. Needless to say, the moths had flown for cover. After I got the shots, I plucked it off and relocated it into nearby shrubs. Length was at least 4 inches.
