Is my caterpillar ok???

Hello everyone,

I just took in a phyciodes larva to rear, and now it has a white fluffy substance covering it. I would’ve almost thought it normal but the fluff covered it’s eyes as well. Is this a symptom of metamorphosis? Is something wrong? It has asters by the way, a host plant. See my ID request post of the normal larva to see the fuzz.

Looks Dead
Appears to have been overtaken by a fungus.

Oh my!!
What a shame. That’s very strange, it wasn’t there one day, and the next morning it appeared. Does it take that fast to incubate?

No Idea
Been ages since I lost a live one to a fungus as getting a handle on preventing fungi from thriving in my rearing and pupation containers was one of the earliest challenges to be taken on.
