Woodland Ground Beetle - Pterostichus rostratus

Woodland Ground Beetle - Pterostichus rostratus
Albany, Carroll County, New Hampshire, USA
May 7, 2008
Size: 17mm

Nice dorsal shot.
I don't have a representative of this non-Wisconsin species in my carabid reference collection. I sure would love to have one! This female must have had a previous struggle - I see missing left front leg and missing hind right tarsus.

Pterostichus rostratus
is, not surprisingly, confirmed based on my examination of this specimen. Important features are the long mandibles and absence of dorsal punctures on elytra. Thanks Tom.

She's all yours
I should be finding more of these, so I'll get a couple more for you.
