Smicrips

Smicrips
Captiva Is, Lee County, Florida, USA
March 23, 2008
Size: 1.9 mm
Found on flowers of a mimosa shrub- only on flowers that were several days old.
I cannot say whether this is Smicrips texana or palmicola. I have Casey's description of texana and this fits nicely, but most of his differences (from palmicola) are very qualitative. Texana is "rather less minute" (texana is 1.0-1.4mm). The FL '98 checklist says texana has been recorded from central FL, Indian River and palmicola from the south, Dade and Monroe. Mike Thomas shows palmicola from Highlands Co here in BugGuide.
