Leafminer, Ranunculus - Phytomyza

Leafminer, Ranunculus - Phytomyza
Van Peenan Park, Winneshiek County, Iowa, USA
May 31, 2020
Blotch miner on Ranunculus abortivus. All the examples I've seen originate at the tips of the lobes on the stem leaves.

Adult agromyzid flies reared from similar mines in 2018 (collection CSE4646, sent to Charley Eiseman and Owen Lonsdale for ID) proved to be Phytomyza flexuosa

Moved from Unidentified Leaf Mines.

So you think it's safe to say the mines looked like this? If so, they are seemingly indistinguishable from P. davisii, as I suspected would be the case.

Yep, they did
Interesting, I didn't know about P. davisii.
