Size: about 1/4 inch
This beetle and others of the same type were mating on a willow trees along side a pond.

There were also a lot of beetle larvae feeding on the willow leaves.
I will post a photo of them separately.
I wonder if it is possible to ID the larvae and if they are the same species as this adult.
