I found this colony of bees in broad daylight in the gravel alley way that runs from Atlantic Park to the Kengsington Commercial area in Pacific Heights. Specifically it was on a small raised slop between the exit from the Blairmore Bikeway to Dickey Crescent.

Most of the bees there looked like this one, with a red or orange fuzzy underside. This one was digging or excavating a hole concealed by some small weeds. Many nearby bees were also excavating and a few were flying off and returning with pieces of leave to take into their burrows.
Many of the bees were territorial and would fly up and chase away other bees from their burrows.

There was a few shiny leafcutter shaped bees resting nearby and a few bees that were so dusty and dirty from digging that its hard to tell if they were the same species or a different species.
