Spittlebug- scientific name - Aphrophora saratogensis
Hanging Rock State Park, Stokes County, North Carolina, USA
May 22, 2005
Size: 3/8 inch or 1 cm
Spiitlebug found on Virginia pine at 1800 feet elevation. Common on small trees in forest. Is this a Aphrophora cribrata - Pine Spittlebug? Is it possible to tell what instar larvae this is?

Aphrophora sp?
Not the pine spittlebug - that species has a larger head.
