Found as a final instar on Nuttall's Oak (
Quercus texana). Interestingly the 'defensive glands' are largest when the larva is resting. When agitated they are everted. As the resulting adult appears to be either
Hypomecis gnopharia or
Hypomecis umbrosaria the description of the larvae in Wagner
(1) would seem to be in error. The original descriptions by Rogert L. Heitzman remains definitive.
