Eleodes sp. darkling beetle? - Eleodes armata

Size: 2 cm
I found this large black beetle plodding up a Mojave desert wash on a chilly, windy morning. When I tried to photograph this beetle, it adopted this classic defensive pose. I believe that this is one of the Eleodes sp. of darkling beetles?
