Orthopeplus quadricollis - Epuraea quadricollis

Orthopeplus quadricollis - Epuraea quadricollis
Sacramento Mnts, Otero County, New Mexico, USA
October 30, 1999
Size: 2.5 mm
These look more like Colydiid*s than Nits because they live under bark in tunnels. This was on Ponderosa Pine, at 9200' elevation.

Just reviewing our nits...
This one pushes the envelope for me, a wood-tunneling nit :-)

occupying vs digging
I think these just walk around in other critters tunnels. It helps to have rasps in front like Bostrich or Scolyt if you want to do heavy-duty tunnelling. I think these nits only need to be the right shape.

Another great addition to the guide.
