You're the first one to comment about this photo, and I think you're right about it being S. costiferum. I just couldn't find any pictures that were a good match for this, and I found S. danae in this same location, and made an apparent wrong assumption. Thanks for helping out on this one.

Sympetrum costiferum?
Hi Tom,
I believe this may actually be a young female Sympetrum costiferum. Did you get any further input on this photo? The pattern of black on the abdomen (usually a sawtooth shape on danae) and the yellow colouring near the leading edge of the forewings (consistent with young costiferum) are what is making me feel that way...It just doesn't fit with S danae. I wish Tony Thomas were still around so he could comment too...
