Size: approx 1 cm
47.168758N, 92.715989W. On a leaf of a highbush cranberry shrub, which was in full bloom and popular with many insects. Saw several of these. They seemed to perch on the leaves, perhaps as observation and ambush sites.

Syrphid, yes.
Thank you; looks like it. Partly I based my attempt on ID on behavior. These didn't seem interested in the flowers; they just perched on the leaves. They acted as if they could be chasing other bugs, but I did not see them catch any! Jerry
