Strange gall that looks a little like a hairy egg yolk. It seems I didn't measure it, but I think it was around 5-7mm. I cut a couple open, but was unable to see anything inside.

Moved from Phylloxera caryaeglobuli, which is supposed to be 1/3-1/2" wide (so, 8-12 mm or so), according to Felt (1940)--although this does look exactly like the illustration for that species. It may be that I had ruled out all the other possibilities when I made the determination before, but I guess this requires a little further thinking. Moved in response to pondering this one
