Smodicum pacificum Linsley - Smodicum pacificum - female

Smodicum pacificum Linsley - Smodicum pacificum - Female
Hereford, Cochise County, Arizona, USA
June 12, 2020
Size: 10 mm
One specimen was attracted to UV lights in my yard (near Hunter and Ash Canyons in the Huachuca Mountains) that were being monitored by Norman Woodley as I was night collecting elsewhere. This is apparently the first Arizona specimen collected since Knull described it in 1966 (as a synonym of Smodicum pacificum: S. arizonarium) from the Chiricahua Mountains near Portal, Arizona. That's always my luck...to be somewhere else when something good shows up in the yard!

Wow!
I need a back yard like yours! I've never seen a specimen of this species and always wondered if it was a valid form.

It was definitely an unexpect
It was definitely an unexpected surprise!
