Why must be Agulla? Why female?

These critters are REALLY cool. Don't know why I never noticed them growing up!

 
Half an answer, a year later...
The reasons that this specimen is likely Agulla are a bit detailed (if you're really interested, e-mail me and I'll tell you what I've learned on the subject...), but assigning the status of female is very easy among snakeflies. That long, flexible ovipositor which is visible in this shot is a dead give away!
