The plant is a composite (daisy family)
which might put these in the large group of red aphids that feed on composite flowers - see
here
. I don't know howe many other genera fall into that categpry, unfortunately. A shot of the basal leaves of these dandelion-like plants can often be helpful for ID.

. Note the involucre of an inner rank of upright phyllaries and an outer rank of reflexed phyllaries; also the thick stem.
